The first Saturday in June each year is National Trails
Day. This year it was June 6. In cooperation with COHVCO
we have volunteered to take the members of The Step N' Half Club on
a trail ride. The members are all adults with Multiple Sclerosis.
We met at Heritage Square at 9:00am Saturday. The Colorado Lottery
is the main sponsor of Trails Awareness Month. They were kind
enough to provide T-shirts for the participants and volunteers.
Before leaving Heritage Square we had a group picture
taken, thanks to Jim Krebs. We had 24 vehicles and 31 members
of the Step N' Half Club. We headed up to the Clear Creek Ranger
Office for our first stop. From there we went to Idaho springs
and paralleled Oh My God Road. We passed through the town of Russell
Gulch and by the Glory Hole mine. We traveled onward to Central City
and headed towards Bald Mountain Road. Our lunch stop was at the
Bald Mountain Cemetery. Some took time to wander around take in
the history that the markers provided. We then continued our journey
on Bald Mountain Road. We took York Gulch down to Fall River road
and headed back to the Clear Creek Ranger office for one more stop.
We managed to get our passengers back to Heritage Square at 2:30pm.
Once again everyone enjoyed being able to get out and take advantage
of some of the beauty that Colorado has to offer.
I would like to thank everyone who once again made
this day possible for special people who otherwise do not have the same
opportunities that we do. Thank you to Greg Labbe with COHVCO
for making all the arrangements with the Step N' Half Club and with
Xerox Corporation for providing the lunches.

Since 1993 the Colorado Association has been hosting this event.
Jim Krebs chaired it for the first three years and I have chaired it
for the last three.
