It didn't take long for Gene King, committee chair
for FEAT, to start receiving calls from eager volunteers during
the storm of March 2003. Members of FEAT had been patiently waiting
for several years to be activated in a time of emergency. |

Old Man Winter didn't disappoint, dumping nearly
35" of snow on the Denver Metro area in less than 36 hours.
Streets were closed, people were stranded and lives were at stake.
The perfect opportunity for FEAT to jump in with its capable fleet
of vehicles. |
Although FEAT had helped during the 2002 fire
season, the last time the group was activated through the City of
Denver’s Office of Emergency Management (OEM) was the snowstorm
in 1997. |

During the March 2003 snowstorm, 90 plus FEAT
volunteers provided over 200 trips to 190 emergency services personnel
throughout the metro area, plus assisting the Red Cross and other
medical emergencies. |
Our special thanks go out to Gene King
and Al Fink. These two spent three sixteen-hour
days in Emergency Operations Center (EOC) coordinating our volunteers
in the field. |
