FEAT volunteers heroes
Today volunteers Gene W. King and Al Fink from the Four Wheel Drive
Emergency Assistant Team (FEAT) dispatched more than 100 four-wheel
drive vehicles offered by other volunteers to transport emergency
medical, fire and police workers today.
These volunteers were our emergency response heroes today,”
said David Sullivan, Acting director of the Mayor's Office of Emergency
Response.
TV channel 7, the Denver ABC affiliate, declared the FEAT volunteers
as their “Heroes of the Week” for their assistance during
the 2003 snowstorm. FEAT provided 4wheel drive rides to emergency
services personnel, i.e., doctors, nurses, police, firemen, and health
care workers. They helped the Red Cross set up an emergency shelter
at East High School to care for over 300 people stranded without electricity.
The FEAT drivers provided transportation for the Red Cross workers
and also provided transportation for cots, blankets and other emergency
shelter items.
FEAT is a program of the Colorado Association of Four Wheel Drive
Clubs, Inc. (CoA4WDCI).
