Warn Industries

Featured Associate Member 4th Quarter 2008

Warn Industries, the leading manufacturer of off-road accessories, industrial hoists and winches, utility products, and driveline disconnects celebrates its 60th anniversary this year. Warn was founded by Arthur Warn in 1948. The business originated when Arthur came up with a revolutionary locking hub design that converted surplus WWII jeeps into two-wheel drive for on-road use. This invention created the hub industry. In 1959, Warn developed another revolutionary product; one that would transform the face of offroading as we know it: the electric winch. Since its invention, Warn has become the best known for its winches, and Warn now makes winch applications for trucks and SUVs, powersports vehicles, industrial applications, and utility purposes.

Today, Warn has more than 650 employees, some of whom have been there for more than 40 years. The company has five divisions offering the following products:

Truck and Auto - variety of truck parts including winches and winching accessories, vehicle hubs, bumpers/mounting systems, lights, skid plates, and fender flares.

Powersports (ATVs/UTVs) - winches ranging from 1,500 - 4,000 lbs., bumpers/mounting systems, lights, Warn Body Armor (skid plates), plow systems, lights, and other accessories.

Warn Works (powertool/utility winch division) - includes the Warn Works PullzAll hand-held pulling and lifting tool which will lift up to 1,000 lbs. with the pull of a trigger. It's designed to replace the old-fashioned "come-a-long", and comes in corded and cordless versions. The Warn Works DC-powered winch line offers winches that'll pull from 1,700 - 4,000 lbs., as well as an AC-winch (the 3000 ACI) that'll pull up to 3,000 lbs. with an outstanding duty cycle.

Industrial - heavy-duty electric and hydraulic winches for a wide variety of applications ranging from the towing industry to the military. Warn industrial winches offer pulling capacities up to 20,000 lbs., too.

Powertrain - hubs and other powertrain-related items for various manufacturers around the world, including being a Tier 1 supplier to Ford Motor Company.

There are two facilities in Oregon (Clackamas and Milwaukie); they're about five miles apart. There is also an office in Amsterdam, Netherlands.

The latest hot product is the Warn Endurance 12.0. It is a revolutionary new winch for trucks and SUVs. This performance powerhouse features 12,000 lbs. of pulling capacity, a mid-frame design, and an innovative cooling system for increased performance.

Here is how it works: The specially designed cooling fan (which is remotely mounted under the vehicle's hood) automatically turns on when the winch's motor reaches a certain temperature; it can also be manually activated. The fan sends air through a hose running into the winch's motor housing, cooling the motor. The air then flows out of the motor housing via a second hose and the air is discharged.

Warn supports several clubs and events throughout the world, including the Mile-Hi Jeep Club and All-4-Fun. Warn believes this is a great opportunity to interact with the people that use their products and to get feedback. Plus, it's a lot of fun!

For those of us who love to venture off road, thank you Warn for your products and for your generous support of All-4-Fun. Happy 60th Anniversary.
