Instructions for Colorado Springs, Fort Collins, JeffCo,
Longmont and Montrose will be similar to these for FEAT Denver. Contact
the appropriate person for your specific area.
FEAT will only be activated after Denver’s Emergency
Operations Center (OEC) has been activated by the Denver Mayors’
Office of Emergency Management (OEM).
If the snow forecast is for 6 or more inches of snow,
you will receive an email ALERT placing all FEAT drivers on stand-by.
Dispatchers will now start calling all drivers to obtain your status
for the upcoming snow emergency. When called, assume your work place
will not be open for the next day(s).
Because of the popularity of the FEAT solution in
the greater Denver Metro area, we will be handling more and more emergency
services personnel, hospital and health clinics’ staff. We will
need more and more drivers for more and more trips every day of the
emergency. Please be generous with your time.
Before the emergency, make sure your 4WD vehicle in good condition
and your gas tank is full. Make sure your cell phone is charged and
don’t forget to take your in-car charger with you.
Make sure you have: drinking water, tire chains, tow strap, shovel,
emergency flares, clipboard/legal pad, pencil (pens freeze), gloves,
extra shoes/boots/soscks and maybe a thermos of coffee or hot chocolate.
You may call the FEAT Dispatcher at 720-865-7619 to let the dispatcher
know that you are available. This FEAT number is only activated during
snow emergencies and is only for FEAT drivers. It is not to be given
to anyone.
As rides are requested dispatch will call you with the name and phone
number of the rider. You will then call the rider to obtain their address,
get directions, if necessary, and make arrangements where to meet. Be
sure to establish an ETA with the rider.
Do not ask for or accept any gratuities when offered. Donations are
accepted to help reduce FEAT administrative costs. Mail any donations
to the FEAT Chairman, Gene W. King, 8076 W 90th Drive, Westminster,
CO 80021.
After you have delivered your rider, call dispatch (720-865-7619) so
they can close out your trip and assign you a new trip..
If you have any problems with any assignment or rider, please let dispatcher
know immediately. For future reference, a record of each rider’s
name and address and the name of the volunteer providing transportation
is maintained in the FEAT software.
Keep in mind that during a snow emergency THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS
A SCHEDULE. You may have a trip that will take a ½ hour and then,
again, you may have one that takes 2 hours. Dispatchers will allow 1-2
hours in scheduling your trips.
